I place a row of these sticky traps in areas that seem to be near their entrance points, and another row of sticky traps around the perimeter of the pull down stairs. I replace the traps every few months, although they seem to work much longer. They really do work for me. I did catch a mouse one time, but mice have not been my problem.. However, the one I left on the front porch lost the glueing ability quickly. But in temps below 40 they (understandably) lose some of their stickiness. My method was pushing a nail thru the center of the board and setting a bait block over the nail. Then I'd surround the baited board with even more boards. In the cooler temps the boards would be scattered and the bait chewed on but for every 4 boards displaced I'd only catch 1 mouse.The other consideration is the after-effect. These boards trap the mice live and they can't easily be unstuck. So at some point you have to finish the job. That isn't pleasant. At times other mice would finish the the stuck ones off themselves.
